Throughout the years Jeroen, Lieven and Dimitri – close friends, all three multi-instrumentalists – played in various professional and semi-professional groups, separately and together, before becoming Megasonic.
Jeroen played in several groups before Dakota, the band were all three friends hooked up. Dakota released a record produced by Lats Varga (Vengeance, Snowy White), which received impressively favourable reviews around Europe. While fronting Dakota, vocalist Dimitri also followed artistic training at the “Muzische Vorming” in Antwerp, simultaneously attending acting classes, and later enrolling at the musical department of the Conservatory of Brussels where he graduated as a qualified classical percussionist. When Dimitri’s career as a professional actor and vocalist in musicals took off, Dakota disbanded and the trio’s musical paths parted for a while, but on a personal level they always kept in touch. By early 2012 Lieven De Wolf was playing the lead guitar parts in the orchestra backing the award-winning rock musical “Passing Strange
Later in 2012 Jeroen built his very own recording studio. Initially a low-key affair, but then Lieven helped out, tracking guitars and offering up lyrics, and Dimitri started recording vocal parts, and everything jelled and gained momentum, resulting in the birth of Megasonic. The results of these early recordings exceeding their wildest expectations, the studio equipment was soon upgraded to a professional level. All the while Megasonic kept recording without any outside pressure or need to watch the clock, allowing them to fine-tune and tweak their songs and recordings to the very high standard they had set for themselves. Over a year later everything fell into place and their first album was recorded, mixed and mastered, and in the can as the saying goes.
