In 2009 some musicians from various bands gathered in one collective which they named Agruss. Ranging from black metal to death, crust and post metal, Agruss does not fall into any specific genre, it is driven by ideas and emotions. All the members of the band have grown on the lands that symbolically reflect the reality of our days : ancient forests, swamps and rivers that are surrounded by three old nuclear power plants from the Sovietic era, one of which exploded in 1986, leaving a permanent scar on the face of the planet and in the life of Tvorek, Kadya, Pikach, Nirf, Anton and Mark.
With 1 million victims until now and 5 million more expected in the next 50 years, the 26 years old Chernobyl disaster is still killing each day around 200 people, 700 animals and countless plants and will continue to kill for the next half century…
“Agruss music is a cry of concern about the modern world, the environment, the pollution. It is a concern over excessive deforestation and increasing industrialization and urbanization ... It is the cry of concern about our lives where we have lost the harmony with nature and consequently the ability to be happy and healthy. It is a concern over excessive consumption and excessive poverty, the globalization and unification for the profit of business corporations. It is a cry of hatred against those who have never experienced hunger or misery but who greedily corrupt nature, generate hunger and make wars around the world, earning bloody money from causing pain and death... “Morok” is a joyless vision of the tragedy that is happening around us. Death is already there and we are standing on the brink of the Abyss ... “Morok” is a multifaceted, deep notion present in Slavic languages and cannot be literally translated into other languages. It combines unconscious demonic images of ancient folklore that frighten us and is tightly intertwined with the fear of rejection. At the same time it carries a lot of dreadful negative concepts and images in everybody’s mind and memory... Eclipse of reason, madness, deception, darkness, fog, dusk, ruin, decay ... “Morok” is our debut album and it is the first part of a future trilogy... our songs are the result of experiments and rituals to recreate the post-atomic atmosphere of our land... those tracks have been recorded in very difficult living conditions for us, but the whole process helped our everyday life in many ways, so we decided to experiment with sound structures and melodies, from the cold and depressive black metal to pure hardcore brutality. Nature is inside us, we are inside nature."
