Calyces is the latest sensation of the Athenian prog rock/heavy metal scene, built around Manthos Stergiou, the vocalist, guitarist and main songwriter of the prog metal band Tardive Dyskinesia, who in their long years run established their presence and released 4 full length albums to critical acclaim. Up until they went into a indefinite hiatus in 2018, they played numerous live shows throughout Europe and participated in landmark festivals alongside the most prestigious progressive metal bands.

To move on from that point, a different vehicle had to be created and it came to be a metaphor for rebirth, for a new shape of life. Calyces are the sepals that form a protective layer around a flower in bud. It is also the name of an Athenian 4 piece prog rock/heavy metal act, built around Manthos, who assumed the guitar and vocal duties, consisted of Alexis Stavropoulos (drums), Giannis Golfis (guitar) and Stelios Tragos (bass), all of them already being key members in Greek bands such as Insect Radio and Revenge Of The Giant Face.

With 2018 as a starting point, the compositions of the debut album “Impulse To Soar” have been drawn and set to high standards of musicianship, forward-thinking perspective and surgical metal agility.

Calyces debut album blends prog metal in the way it was shaped through the 00’s, with the finest elements of classic progressive rock from the 70’s.
