Operatika was born in 2002 when Yuri Liakhovitch (drums), Bill Visser (guitar), and Slava Popova (vocals) met together for the first time. As they talked about their musical interests and projects, everyone felt it was worth a try to get together at the rehearsal studio. After spending a couple of hours playing together and having had enough musical background, the three decided to start a band.
The band still needed a bass player and a keyboardist but Bill, Yuri and Slava started working on putting together new material. Bill brought in his fast riffs and solos, Yuri brought in his powerful double-kicks and Slava brought in her contemporary operatic vocals.
As the band's first bass player joined in, the sound became much more complete. The band kept working on their first few songs and looking for a keyboardist. The band's name did not come easy but after many ideas, suggestions and discussions, "Operatika" seemed to really fit the style and sound of music.
In early 2003, Operatika welcomed Anna, whose keyboard parts made a perfect match to the band's songs. After working hard on completing enough material for a live performance, Operatika's first big show was supporting Nightwish at L'amour (Brooklyn, NY) on September 7, 2003. The crowd loved the music, which encouraged the band to keep going forward—writing, rehearsing and recording.
In April of 2005, Operatika released its long awaited Demo EP "Dreamworld". "Dreamworld's" four tracks became very successful, instantly attracting a lot of attention and new fans from all over the world.
Encouraged by "Dreamworld's" success, fans, interest from record labels and other musicians, Operatika kept working on new material and playing a lot of live shows.
Throughout the last several years, the band has shared the stage with Nightwish, Helloween, Yngwie Malmsteen, George Lynch, Twisted Sister, Sebastian Bach, Europe, Therion, Sonata Arctica, Epica, Kamelot, Firewind, Overkill, DORO, Stratovarius, John Oliva's Pain, Michael Schenker Group and others.
In 2006 Operatika decided to start recording its first full-length album "The Calling". While working on the album, the band signed a contract with Scarlet Records and was honored to have Mike LePond (Symphony X) record all the bass parts.
"The Calling" is scheduled to be released in October 2008 and is much awaited by Operatika's friends and fans throughout the world. It features a great variety of material displaying the band's real sound—a combination of fierce guitar riffs and solos, powerful double-kick drums, harmonious keyboards, intense bass and operatic vocals.
