Dopo la pubblicazione de “The 13th Apostle”, grazie a Oliver Häusler della ArtistWorXX (www.artistworxx.de), i S.I.N. per voce del suo Leader Deddy Andler ci ha concesso una piacevole intervista:

Deddy: Grazie tanto. Bello sapere che ti sia piaciuto ciò che hai sentito.Deddy: Beh, non sai mai cosa succede quando registri un album. Quando abbiamo cominciato a scrivere e finalmente terminato lo sviluppo dell’intera storia, sapevamo che era qualcosa di speciale. Quando è stata incisa la prima parte di batteria abbiamo capito dove sarebbe arrivata la resa sonora, ed eravamo sicuri che questo stava per diventare un album stupefacente. Ma era solo la nostra opinione.
Quando finalmente invii l'album ai critici, è sempre una strana sensazione.
Cosa ne pensano? Così adesso siamo veramente contenti di tutti gli apprezzamenti indirizzati al nostro ultimo lavoro, e questo ci rende orgogliosi.Deddy: Non è stato difficile convincere i cantanti. Per niente. Tutti erano eccitati da questa idea di avere cantanti diversi per i differenti personaggi principali. Carsten Schulz è un vecchio amico della band, per questo lo abbiamo imbarcato con una strizzatina d’occhio. Ha preso contatto con Conny Andreszka che ha immediatamente acconsentito a partecipare. Trovare la voce femminile per Junia è stato un po’ più duro, ma infine l’ho trovata su myspace, le ho scritto un’email ed ha accettato. Tutte le parti vocali sono state registrate separatamente poiché non saremmo riusciti ad gestirle contemporaneamente. Ma per tutto l’intero processo di registrazione questo non è stato affatto un problema.Deddy: L'origine? Niente di speciale, solo un sogno, haha. Mio fratello mi ha raccontato di un sogno che aveva fatto. Era con Gesù e voleva diventare il suo discepolo, ma il Signore ha detto che non sarebbe stato possibile perché la storia era già stata scritta. All’inizio abbiamo riso, ma poi abbiamo cominciato a ripensare all'idea. Inizialmente volevamo farne un brano ma alla fine, valutati i diversi aspetti dell’intera cosa, abbiamo deciso di registrare un intero album concettuale. Con l'aiuto di Ana Kugli, a proposito lei è laureata in letteratura, abbiamo studiato la storia intera ed abbiamo realizzato la trama.Deddy: Si e no. Lei è stata coinvolta nell’arrangiamento, ha ricevuto i primi demo per comporre la storia. Per esempio è stata coinvolta nel decidere la lista dei brani, perché ha buone idee su quale canzone stia meglio in una certa situazione dei personaggi. Ma non ha partecipato al vero processo di scrittura della composizione dei “riffs”e delle canzoni.Deddy: Oh, questo è difficile da dire. Per me deve essere “Junia’s Eyes”. L'interazione di Pat e di Renee è impressionante su questo brano, ci sono parti potenti e parti più melodiche, penso che questa canzone rappresenti al meglio “The 13th Apostle”.Deddy: No, non questa volta. Poiché questo è un concept-album, abbiamo impiegato più tempo per la scrittura rispetto ai nostri album precedenti. Ogni cosa è stata adattata su questo. La storia, la trama, la musica, le parole. Abbiamo finito la scrittura completa prima che cominciassimo la registrazione. Così non ci sono rimasti ulteriori brani.Deddy: Qualche volta un po’, ma non veramente nel dettaglio. Abbiamo avuti i nostri pensieri e abbiamo scherzato su come uno potrebbe immaginare di andare in scena con l’intera trama. Avere diversi attori, i costumi e i materiali. Ma ci vediamo soltanto come un hardrock/metal band. Così questi pensieri non sono stati mai presi sul serio.Deddy: Beh, è difficile dirlo. Ameremmo andare in giro con lo show. Ma la domanda è se possiamo prendere con noi diversi cantanti. O Pat dovrebbe cantare tutto? Come possiamo finanziare qualcosa di simile, ed ultimo ma non meno importante un live-record venderebbe bene? I tempi per il nostro genere di musica sono abbastanza duri oggi. E purtroppo non abbiamo una somma illimitata di soldi che attendono di essere spesi, haha.Deddy: Haha, bella domanda. Non mi è mai stato chiesto prima. Beh, non ancora, ma sono sempre abbastanza sicuro che il momento verrà, come sempre…Bene, abbiamo nuovo materiale giacente, ci sono alcune idee per probabilmente qualcosa come la Parte-II dell’ “Apostle”, ma il prossimo album presumo non sarà un “concept”. Original Version:Deddy: Thanks a lot. Nice to know that you like what you’ve heard.Deddy: Well, you never know what happens when you record an album. When we started writing and finally finished the development of the whole story, we knew that it was something special. And after the first drumparts were recorded and we know where we would probably end soundwise, we were sure that this was gonna be an amazing album. But that was just our own opinion. When you finally hand the album out to all those reviewers out there, it’s always a strange feeling. What do they think? So right now we are really happy with all those nice words we get about our latest work, and it makes us proud.Deddy: It wasn’t hard work to convince the singers. Not at all. All of them were excited by this idea of having different singers for the different main characters. Carsten Schulz is an old friend of the band, so we got him in the boat with an blink of an eye. He made up the contact to Conny Andreszka and he immediately agreed to participate. To find the female voice for Junia was a bit harder, but I finally found her on myspace, wrote an email, and she agreed also.
All vocal parts were recorded separately as we really could not manage to get them all together at one time. But throughout the whole recording-process this wasn’t a problem at all…Deddy: The origin? Nothing special, just a dream, haha. My brother told me about a dream he had. He was with Jesus and wanted to be his disciple, but the lord said, it wasn’t possible because the story’s already written. At first we all just laughed about this, but then we started to like the idea. At first we thought about making a song out of this, but we finally ended up with more and more aspects of the whole thing and decided to record a full conceptual album. With the help of Ana Kugli, she is a doctor of literature by the way, we investigated the whole thing and came up with the whole plot.Deddy: Yes and no. She was involved in arranging as she got the first demos for making up the story. For example she was involved in deciding the track list, cause she had pretty good ideas which song fits best to a certain situation of the characters. But she did not participate in the “real” writing-process of writing riffs and songs..Deddy: Oh, this is hard to tell. In my opinion it has to be Junia’s Eyes. The interaction of Pat and Renee is awesome on this track, you have powerful parts and softer parts, I think this song represents “The 13th Apostle” best.Deddy: No, not this time. As this is a conceptalbum, we took more time for the writing as with our other albums before. Everything had to fit on this one. The story, the plot, the music, the lyrics. We finished the complete writing before we started to record. So there were no leftovers at the end. Deddy: Yeah, that would be cool, but again the question would be which song to choose. And then the story of the video. Just an expert of the whole plot… Hard to tell, but it might be cool to make a video. But money plays a big role here also. For a band like us it is hard to earn a little money with the music we make. There is not so much left to be spent on videos, as sad as it is….Deddy: Sometime a bit, but not really in detail. We had our thoughts and joked around about how one could imagine going on stage with the whole plot. Having different actors, costumes and stuff. But we only see ourselves as a hardrock/metal-band. So these thoughts were never taken to serious.Deddy: Well, this is hard to say. We’d love to go on the road with the show. But the question is if we should take the different singers with us. Or should Pat sing everything. How can we finance something like this, and last but not least would a live-record really sell well? The times for our kind of music are pretty tough today. And unfortunately there is not an unlimited amout of money that waits to be spent, haha.Deddy: Haha, good question. I haven’t been asked this before. Well, not yet, but I am pretty sure that the time will come, as always…
