The band formed in 1999 by the encounter of the singer Mike and guitarist Enomys.
In the same year the band recorded the EP Silent Storm, a self production clearly heard and appreciated in the music underground. In the spring of 2000 the band released another 4 tracks demo entitled Serenity, in which the use of a real string quartet forged one of the master pillars of the "Dark Lunacy-sound".
In 2001 the band signed a contract with Fuel Records and in November it released the first official full length album: Devoid.
Devoid met with great success and, driven by the two hits Forlorn and Dolls, Dark Lunacy became known and followed on a larger scale, easily gainig the contract for the next album.
In June 2003, the second full length Forget - Me - Not showed to the world a perfect blend: melodic parts (driven by a string quartet increasingly in evidence) mixed with a much more aggressive attitude. Between 2004 and 2005, the band went through a real golden age. Live activity had a huge boost and Dark Lunacy played several gigs with foreign bands and took part in major Italian festivals (like Gods Of Metal and Evolution Fest).
Since 2004 the band is often featured in events abroad, especially in Mexico and Russia, where the fan base has become now very consistent. In 2006, Dark Lunacy touch the pinnacle of their career with the third studio album entitled The Diarist, a concept album that deals with the 900-days siege that took place in Leningrad during the World War II. Less orchestral that last album, the Diarist reached an higher technical-songwriting level, combining powerful and sharp guitar riffs with melodies full of pathos, anger and solemnity.
In fall 2008 Enomys, a founding member of the band, decided to leave the Lunacy camp. His place was taken by "Simone Cirani".
In early 2009 the band is featured in many international live events, but the internal frictions that began months before, a consequence of Enomys' quitting, stressed the various human incompatibilities within the band. Thus, in fall 2009, Mike Lunacy took a drastic but necessary decision: exempting all the components, building a new solid and strong line up with hi-profile musicians deeply involved into the metal music in order to continue the Dark Lunacy project in the best way.
It has been a winning choice: in October 2011, Dark Lunacy completed the recording of the fourth album Weaver of Forgotten, released in november by Fuel Records, the label at Mike Lunacy's side for more than 10 years. Weaver of Forgotten is a concept, or rather a constant prayer in memory of our loved ones. An intimate work, personal, touching. After just two weeks after its release, numbers and figures spoke clear: best-selling album in the band's history.
In March 2012, the band flew to Mexico City to record the first Gratest Hits Live. The DVD, which captures the band performing its carreer highlights in front of 3.000 people, will be released (again for Fuel Records) in September 2013.
After a full year of sound research and composition, in fall 2013 the band will enter the Plaster Studios of Porto Potenza to record the fifth full length album. Ten songs where the band will return to its roots, reviving the atmosphere of Mother Russia. And this time everything will be done at its top, using the Red Army choir as corner stone of an unmatched sound. The album is planned for out in 2014.
