Gianluca Galli formed the band in 1988 named Mad Mice with his friend Sergio Brombin on drums. In 1990 both Riccardo “Foggy” Biliotti and Jacopo Meille (the “italian” Frank’n’Furter of the Rocky Horror Show) joined the band. As Mad Mice they toured Italy, produced more 10 demos and finally in 1993 they recorded their self debut CD in Germany at DELTA Studios for INLINE Music Gmbh a member of the WARNER CHAPPELL labels. Unfortunately the CD was never released due the label’s financial problems, leaving Mad Mice owners of the master.

Gianluca and Jacopo together with Foggy and Alessandro Gerbi (ex C.S.I. drummer and percussionist) reformed the band as Mantra and in 1997 they entered UTOPIA Studios and recorded several new tracks for a new CD entitled with the new drummer Heiko Dentzer.

Year 2000 started with a new radical line up change: Andrea Castelli, a real legend in the Italian hard rock and progressive scene (Airspeed, Shabby Trick to name a few) and Senio Firmati became the new rhythm section and finally the band signed for Lucretia Records releasing their debut full length CD entitled “Roots” in 2002. The band started touring Italy and in 2003 attended the Monsters of rock festival in Milan along with Saxon, Queensryche, Motorhead, Whitesnake, Angra, Saxon and many others.

Year 2004 saw the release of Mantra’s new CD “Hard Times” In December Jacopo Meille joins Tygers Of Pan Tang as lead singer still remaining a member of Mantra.

In 2006 the band released their third album, ‘Hate Box’ and parted company from Andrea Castelli recruiting the new bass player Andrea “Ace” Bartolini (Machine Messiah/Devil's Mojito).

Due to the constant commitments with other band and projects, Mantra were forced to slow down their activity. The making of the new album was a long but very productive process that began in 2009. 'I4D' is an absolute 100% band effort and the best album they have ever recorded. It features 10 songs, a perfect mix of aggressive riffs and melodic choruses, in the great traditon of Black Sabbath and Ozzy's solo carrier with a touch of modern distortion.
